Heritage Week scales new heights

This year’s National Heritage Week, which ran from August 19-28, was reportedly the most successful incarnation of the event to date.

Co-ordinators of the week issued a big thank you to all the Heritage Week event organisers across the country.

“This year, 2011 has been the most successful National Heritage Week to date,” said Michael Starrett, Chief Executive of the Heritage Council.

“Over 1400 events took place throughout the week and attendance levels recorded across the country were extremely high. National Heritage Week could not have taken place without the dedication and commitment of communities across Ireland who have spent many months planning and organising heritage events in their area.

“The Heritage Council would like to sincerely thank all of the event organisers, many of whom were volunteers, for their efforts in making National Heritage Week such a success.”

The Heritage Council also issued a reminder to everyone who attended Heritage Week events to enter two great competitions, both of which close next Tuesday, September 13.
