Local music site shortlisted for web awards
Local music website KilkennyMusic.com was shortlisted for a prestigious web award last week, missing out to rookie music magazine State on the night.
The website, which promotes local music in Kilkenny, was nominated in the ‘Best Music Site’ category for this year’s Irish Web Awards, held in the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in Dublin last Saturday night.
Founder members Ken McGuire and Ross Costigan represented KilkennyMusic.com at the awards, where they were pitted against luminaries such as State.ie, the music magazine which recently became a free publication, and new music TV site www.muzu.tv
Although KilkennyMusic.com failed to scoop the award for best music site, one award did make its way back to Kilkenny, KilkennyMusic.com’s Ken McGuire winning the gong for ‘Best Podcaster’ for his weekly Playlist Mix.
“Needless to say there was some level of surprise, shock, delight and a little more surprise but it’s great to get acknowledged for the work you’re doing, when you least expect it,” he wrote on the KilkennyMusisc.com website.
The awards were handed out in front of a 300 strong, sold-out audience in Dublin last Saturday night and the ceremony was sponsored by Moviestar.ie
KilkennyMusic.com was founded in September 2005 to support the local music scene, supported by funding from the Arts Office of Kilkenny County Council, and the website has been key in promoting local, national and international artists performing in Kilkenny.
KilkennyMusic.com are also the team behind the popular One Take Sessions, a free, open music night showcasing exciting up-and-coming acts on the Irish music scene.
They are also involved in the Battle of the Bands as sponsors and judges. For more information on their services visit www.kilkennymusic.com
