Music festival marks its twelfth year with 73 competitions
Kilkenny Music Festival, which hosts a range of musical, singing and choral competitions for young performers and choirs, is announcing 73 competitions for its 12th festival.
Launching its new syllabus for 2010, the festival is introducing a new competition for junior piano recital with a special cup presented by St Canice’s Credit Union, a long-time supporter of the festival.
"We are delighted to announce 73 competitions and two major awards of €1,000 each for the festival's most outstanding individual performance and most outstanding choir," says Regina O'Leary, committee member of Kilkenny Music Festival.
"We are looking forward to an excellent festival this year with participants performing across piano, string, chamber music, solo voice, and choral competitions, and our grand finale gala concert of the festival's best performances next February."
The 12th Kilkenny Music Festival takes place in Kilkenny from Wednesday, January 27 to Sunday, January 31, 2010. This year's syllabus of competitions is out now and applications close on November 27. Overall winners will go onto compete for top awards and bursaries at Kilkenny Music Festival's Gala Concert.
The Kilkenny Music Festival was founded to commemorate the outstanding contribution of the late Fr Con Sherin to music in Kilkenny and offers young musicians, singers, and choirs the chance to compete and have their hard work and dedication appreciated.
Besides promoting music among young people, Kilkenny Music Festival recognises the costs of studying music, instruments and tuition as well as the time, effort, and dedication involved. Two major bursaries of €1,000 sponsored by State Street/Kilkenny Music Festival and Meubles are awarded in recognition of such costs to help students further their musical careers.
