McGrath Centre draws up a new three year plan
The Fr McGrath Family Resource Centre on St Joseph’s Rd has started a major needs analysis and review of its services as part of its effort to draw up a new three-year area action plan to help meet local community challenges and needs.
The plan is being drawn up by the voluntary management board because of the McCarthy Report’s recommendations to abolish the Family Support Agency that supports 107 family resource centres across the country.
Chairperson of the voluntary board, Pat Brennan, said the project now had an annual footfall of nearly €100,000 and was providing supports and education, training and development services to many groups in the community.
Under the last three-year plan called ‘From Three To University’ the project has developed a state of the art crèche accessed by 76 children daily, youth, and after school care clubs for 126 children every week, daily homework and study, and grind support services for 84 children and teenagers. This is supported by many more volunteer tutors every school week.
The centre has also helped develop and support the Butts Men’s Group, the Kilkenny Men Alone Network group, the Butts Women’s Group, the Kilkenny Volunteers Contact for The Elderly Programme, the Garda District Office, and it has established and supported volunteers who run the very successful Butts Community Savings Bank.
