A young Kilkenny man won a fleet of prizes after swooping the Boot to the Headlight truck show in Goffs Showground, Naas, Co Kildare, at the weekend.

MJ McGuinness, proprietor of McGuinness Logistics and the Kilkenny branch of DPD, won six prizes for his trucks including Best Mercedes, Best 09 Truck, Best Scania, Best 05 to 08 Truck and he also won first and second place in the Best Lights at Night category. He won every category he entered with his Mercedes Actros Megaspace and Scania R500 Topline.

His trucks, one with stunning artwork of Kilkenny, were the envy of thousands of truckers and enthusiasts at the three-day show.

MJ first made the headlines in local media at 21 years of age when he was the youngest person in Ireland to be presented with a national and international road freight carrier’s licence by former Minister for Transport Martin Cullen in Leinster House, Dublin.

He is now 23 and has shown maturity far beyond his years and already owns a successful Secure Storage company, the Kilkenny branch of DPD and McGuinness Logistics and Warehousing.

Continuing a family tradition, MJ took over the transport business from his father Deputy John McGuinness. MJ has worked with his father in the transport business since he was a child and he is very proud of the fact that his dad taught him everything.

Along with DPD, MJ set up a Secure Storage company a little over two years ago and has already expanded beyond his expectations to cater for the demand.

MJ and his drivers are renowned for the care they take of their trucks, which are on the road all over Ireland and the continent. Taking part in truck shows has become a big social event for them and a platform to display their hard work in maintaining the outstanding image of the fleet.
