The town of Rathdowney on the Kilkenny border in County Laois is fearing the loss of 120 jobs at a local meat plant in the town.
The Meadow Meats processing factory in Rathdowney, has announced cost cutting merger plans which will directly affect employees locally.
The Dawn Meats Group has taken a decision to merge the boning hall at the factory with another plant 90km away in Co Waterford.
Workers said they have been offered redundancy or alternative employment in Co Waterford but many claim that they will not be able to move for logistical reasons.
The company says slaughtering at Meadow Meats will continue as normal.
