It’s official. As we revealed here on this page last week, Galway is set to host the biggest global party in Irish sailing history.
The finale and the prize-giving ceremony of the next edition of the world’s biggest ocean yacht race is coming to the west of Ireland, putting Galway once again firmly on the Volvo Ocean Race map.
The Saying that every cloud has a silver lining must surely ring loud in the ears of the Ducado Syndicate in these tough times as the six-member syndicate stand on the brink of collecting their share of a huge £1million Triple Crown Bonus sponsored by WBX.COM which goes to the winner of the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, The Stan James Christmas Hurdle at Kempton and the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle on Tuesday next March 16.
Having triumphed in the Supreme Novices Hurdle the opening event at last years festival there was every chance the son of Definite Article and Native Idea would be heading down the novice chasing route this season but the decision of connections to go down the Grade 1 Hurdling route has most definately been vindicated.
The horse is chomping at the bit, the jockey’s jodhpurs have been ironed, and the lucky charms are packed, yes, excitement is really brewing up now as a Galway syndicate and their horse, Go Native, make final preparations for next week’s Cheltenhem Festival where they could be in with a chance to win a £1 million bonus.
Defying the odds, rank outsider Go Native achieved an amazing win at the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle last November. The gelding then went on to to give an equally impressive win at the Christmas Hurdle in Kempton on St Stephen’s Day. After winning these grade one national hunt hurdle races Go Native is now just one race away from winning the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown if its luck continues in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on March 16. The WBX Hurdling Triple Crown has only ever been achieved once, by Kribensis, which won the three races in the same season in 1989/90.
