Second phase of Knocknacarra shopping centre gets go-ahead

Developers anxious to begin work on phase two of the Galway West District Centre in Knocknacarra have been given the go-ahead by the Galway City Council.

The announcement came on Friday that city planners would be granting the site developers permission to begin the second phase of construction on the site, which currently includes a Dunnes Stores, a B&Q, and a Next.

Planning permission for the development was sought in mid-October by Moritz Group Ltd, the developers responsible for the construction of phase one of the centre, which opened last year.

Phase two of the development will include a standalone three to four storey block that will hold a crèche, a management office, seven shops, a primary healthcare centre, and three restaurants. Surface and underground parking is also included in the development plans, bringing the total number of spaces for the centre up to 861.
