Dogs targetted with poison

Galway city dog owners are being warned to be extra vigilant with their pets this week after a number of reported poisonings in the Rahoon area of the city.

Five dogs in the Rahoon area have been poisoned over the last two weeks, it has been reported by the Galway Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Tests undertaken by local vets have shown the dogs to have a dangerous substance in their bloodstream.

Margaret O’Sullivan of the GSPCA added that all five of the dogs were family pets, which she said was even more worrisome.

“It is vital that people who have dogs that have been poisoned contact the gardai,” said Ms O’Sullivan, who hopes that warnings like these will help scare off the offender or offenders.

Anyone with information about the poisonings is asked to contact Galway gardai on 091 538000.
