Life For Rent in Connemara for Dido?

Multi-award winning songwriter Dido could be set for the quiet life in Connemara

The English star first came to prominence when her song ‘Thank You’ was sampled on Eminem’s number-one single ‘Stan’ and since then she has gone on to become one of the biggest-selling female recording artists in the world. Yet, even though she had number one records in 15 countries – including the USA, UK and Australia – there is a little corner of County Galway that she holds dear.

In a recent interview she said, “I still regard Connemara in Galway as the most beautiful place in the world ever. It just blows me away every single time I go there.”

In recent years Dido has divided her time between homes in Los Angeles and London but it is believed that she is also interested in renting property in County Galway. Other music stars to have lived in the Connemara area on a semi-permanent basis in recent years include Sting, Ronnie Wood, The Edge, Steve Earle, and John Prine.

Dido has prominent Irish connections through her late father William O’Malley Armstrong, a distant cousin of former Progressive Democrats founder Des O’Malley. On her new album Safe Trip Home she has dedicated a song to her father entitled ‘Grafton Street’ in which she sings ‘No more trips to Grafton Street/No more going there/To see you lying still while we all come and go’.
