New coaching teams for U17 and U20 footballers

Galway Football Board will be interviewing for new management teams for both U20 and U17 in the coming weeks.

Galway county secretary John Hynes, in his convention report, said with both U21 and minor grades having been discontinued, the football committee would be looking for new management teams for the new season.

Mellows advance to final after a long, long wait

However, that wait ended on Sunday in Kenny Park when the city side booked their place in the 2017 final against either Craughwell or Gort after a narrow one-point win over Cappataggle, 0-13 to 1-9.

In a totally lop-sided 2016 provincial championship final last November, Galway football champions Corofin faced off against Roscommon champions St Brigid's in Carrick on Shannon, and won their seventh senior Connacht championship by 2-13 to 0-5.

Now when they come face to face again this Sunday in Tuam Stadium (2pm) in the provincial semi-final, the Corofin management team, led by Kevin O'Brien, and the players will have to be cautious of any complacency when they take on the Roscommon champions.
