Reducing Garda Traffic Corps is a ‘short-sighted retrograde action’ says Cuddy

Reducing the size of the Garda Traffic Corps “is a short-sighted and retrograde step” that will have a “detrimental effect on policing across the country”.

This is the view of Jim Cuddy, the Independent councillor for the Oranmore area, who is calling on Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar and Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to review this decision.

Duo accused of robbing Christmas market trader sent for trial

Two men accused of following and then robbing a trader during the Continental Christmas Market in 2010 have been sent forward for trial.

At a previous court sitting Jamie Clune (34) with an address at 4 Bridge View, Roslevan, Ennis, Co Clare, and Justin Wynne (32) with an address at 59 John Coogan Park, Newcastle, pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbing a man of €360 in cash at Woodquay, on November 21, 2010, contrary to Section 14 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act.

Galway Arts Centre study day for Leaving Cert art students

The Galway Arts Centre will host the National Gallery of Ireland’s Study Day for Leaving Cert Students in the Nuns Island Theatre.

The study day will take place on Thursday March 1 and will be presented by Brina Casey of the National Gallery of Ireland. She will cover art in Ireland and throughout Europe, from 1000 CE to the present day. The lecture functions as an intensive revision sessions focusing on key points – they are not intended as introductions to the topics. Handouts for each theme are provided.

Shantalla residents’ senior residents’ lunch

The Shantalla Residents’ Association will hold its annual lunch for senior residents in the Clybaun Hotel this Sunday from 2pm to 6pm, with a mulled wine reception at 1.15pm.

A free bus service will be provided by Lally Coaches to take residents to the hotel, departing from the Shantalla Community Centre at 1pm sharp, with a return bus at 6pm. There will be music and dancing from 4pm to 6pm.
