Local Link rural bus services, connecting towns and townlands in rural Ireland carried 3.2 million passengers in 2023, a 14% increase on the 2.8 million passenger journeys in 2022.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving three vehicles, a van and two cars, that occurred shortly after 10am on Tuesday morning on the N17 at Gortnagunned, Milltown, in north Galway.
A female passenger (80s) of one of the cars was fatally injured in the collision. The female driver of the same vehicle was removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway where she is being treated for her injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.

Galway City Council is now accepting applications for a new Community Climate Action fund for community groups to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and help decarbonise the city. The funding will support small (up to €20,000), medium (€21,000-€50,000), and large-scale (€51,000-€100,000) community climate action projects in five key theme areas: community energy; travel; food and waste; shopping and recycling; and local climate and environmental action.

Connacht Rugby have sold the Sportsground naming rights to US company Dexcom, in a move that is set to be announced in the coming days.
The move could be announced as early as tomorrow (Friday) when Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will come to Athenry to turn the sod at Dexcom’s IDA site — a move which will see the commencement of a promised €300 million investment over the next five years.
