Funding will allow road realignment at Bawnmore Crossroads

Road realignment at Bawnmore Crossroads will go ahead following funding to the Galway County Council under the 2018 Regional and Local Road Grant Allocations.

The county council has received more than €23 million which will go towards restoration, improvement, and maintenance; safety improvement works; improvement grants; bridge rehabilitation; training; discretionary grants; and drainage.

Of that total, €115,000 will go towards road realignment at Bawnmore Crossroads. Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish welcomed this saying: “This allocation will help to significantly improve road safety, as there have been a number of serious accidents on a sharp bend in the recent past. This is busy road, in close proximity to Bawnmore National School, and I had been liaising with Galway County Council and the Minister for Transport to ensure that funding was allocated for urgent safety improvements.”

Dep Grealish said he hoped the €23 million allocation overall “will help in some way to address the shortfall in Galway County Council’s roads budget”.
