Public lecture on Che Guevara next week

Galway to mark 50th anniversary of the Revolutionary's death

Fifty years on from his execution by Bolivian Special Forces and the CIA, Che Guevara remains an icon, and inspiration, and a contested and controversial figure, and he will be the subject of a public talk in Galway.

The revolutionary legacy of Che Guevara will be the focus of a public meeting next Monday at 8pm upstairs in Busker Browne’s bar. The meeting is being organised by The Socialist Party. The main speaker will be former Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins - who produced a documentary for TG4 which followed the trail of Che’s celebrated Motorcycle Diaries journey around South America.

Che, who was born in Argentina and was of Irish (including Galway ) descent joined with Fidel Castro and a small band of Cuban revolutionaries in the 1950s, who would overthrow the brutal US backed Baptista dictatorship.

All are welcome to the meeting. For more information contact Conor Burke on 086 - 1729599.
