Maigh Cuilinn and Kilkerrin/Clonberne ladies in Connacht finals on Sunday

It will be an exciting weekend for the ladies footballers of Kilkerrin/Clonberne and Moycullen, with both clubs featuring in provincial finals this Sunday with the two games being played in Ballyhaunis and Claremorris.

Kilkerrin/Clonberne and Carnacon (Mayo ) who played out a sensational 6-14 to 5-17 draw last weekend in the senior club final, will go again in the replay on Sunday in Ballyhaunis GAA pitch at 2pm.

In the drawn game, defending champions Carnacon were as always, extremely reliant on veteran Mayo star Cora Staunton and she scored a remarkable 4-13 for the Mayo champions.

Staunton who is due to head to Australia in the next few weeks to try out at Australian rules scored a hat trick of penalties as well as 1-10 from play in a surreal display.

Annette Clare was top-scorer for the Galway champions notching 3-4 in a tough game that saw both teams ending with 14 players after two red cards were issued and seven penalties given. Substitute Ailish Morrissey was the saviour for the Kilkerrin girls as her point three minutes into injury time brought the game to a replay.

The Connacht Ladies Intermediate club final also takes place on Sunday with Moycullen’s game with St Mary’s (Sligo ) taking place in Fr Gibbons Park in Claremorris at 2pm.

The Moycullen team management of Bríd Uí Chonghaile, Johnny Carter, Monica Corcoran, and David Carter will be looking for big performances from players such as Áine McDonagh Ailbhe Davoren, Emma and Katie Carter, Kate Law, Aisling and Laura Corcoran, Evvie Lownds, and Molly and Jean Hynes.

The return of Shannon Keady from injury in the past few months is also a big plus for the squad and they will believe that if they can produce a big display they are well capable of winning the Connacht Intermediate title.
