Continued success at Colleran’s auction

It was another very successful auction for clients of Don Colleran last week, when all properties sold, with one exceeding his client's expectations by more than €60,000.

The first property to be sold, and the one that generated the most excitement in the packed auction room, was No 2 Dunne's Terrace on the main Bohermore road. This two bedroom mid-terrace house, built in the mid-1920s and in need of some attention, was guiding €130,000. Bidding was initially very slow to open and the auctioneer had to drop down to €110,000 before getting his first bid. While it appeared to some that the property was going to sell for €140,000 with only two bidders, the auctioneer's experience and confidence showed as he persisted, assuring the room it was worth considerably more.

Suddenly five other bidders declared their interest, and what followed was 10 minutes of very tense bidding. When on five different occasions the property appeared sold, the auctioneer delayed dropping his gavel just long enough for another bid to be offered. Following 52 bids from six different bidders the property eventually sold for €194,000.

Next to sell was No 6 St Dominick's Road, described by Don Colleran as one of the finest Claddagh properties to be offered for sale for many years. This renovated three bedroom bungalow had generated considerable interest and sold at auction for €320,000.

The last property to sell was No 67 Monalee Heights, a bright, spacious, three bedroom semi in a mature estate in Knocknacarra. In closing the successful auction, which underlined the demand Colleran auctioneers has for properties in and around the city, Don Colleran appealed to anyone thinking of selling to contact him for a free property appraisal as he has a number of disappointed under bidders.
