Sky Road Film Festival features an exciting lineup, the festival takes place on Saturday October 14th!

This year's Sky Road Film Festival features an exciting lineup, the festival takes place on Saturday October 14th at the Station House Theatre in Clifden, Co Galway.

The key feature films at this year’s festival will be Stephen Burke’s ‘Maze’ and this year’s Irish entry for Foreign Language film at the Oscars, ‘Song of Granite.’

MAZE. Inspired by the true events of the infamous 1983 prison breakout of 38 IRA prisoners from HMP, which was to become the biggest prison escape in Europe since World War II.

Song of Granite portrays the life of Connemara sean-nós singer, Joe Heaney. The beautiful yet harsh landscape combined with the myths, fables and songs of his Connemara childhood helped shape this complex and gifted character. Enigmatic and fascinating, Heaney’s devotion to his art came at a huge personal cost to the singer and those closest to him.

Speaking about the festival, Éamonn Ó Cualáin, Director and Founder of Sky Road Film Festival said:

"Joe Heaney was one of the best sean-nós singers ever to come out of Ireland. Being a Connemara man I am proud to have the Irish Oscar entry for 2017 'SONG OF GRANITE' directed by Pat Collins screening at the festival."

Other screenings include a selection of Irish Shorts including IFTA Award winning short animation, Second to None, which is in association with the Irish Film Board, films from the Little Cinema and Galway City of Film’s 48 Hr Challenge will also feature over the weekend.
