Exploring the benefits of yoga and mindfulness

Yoga and mindfulness have several benefits for children and young people’s physical and mental health.

They improve strength, flexibility, co-ordination and balance. They can also increase emotional resilience, self-image, self-esteem, self-control and boost concentration.

Yoga and mindfulness help children and teens to relax and reduce stress as well as nurture compassion, generosity, and respect for all living beings. But most of all yoga is fun!

Pekes is now offering exciting new yoga workshops for children and adolescents every Monday in The Sports Dome in Salthill. This is a state of the art venue for sports and fitness activities.

Pekes also runs monthly workshops for adults on how to practise yoga and mindfulness with children and young people. Adults can learn a basic yoga programme in just two hours, or adults can avail of day long training including mindfulness, meditation and also, advanced children’s yoga. All workshops are certified by CPD.

Pekes’ experts are available for consultations for schools, crèches and day-care facilities who would like to explore using yoga as part of their everyday routines. School yoga, chair yoga, family yoga, yoga parties and yoga for children with reduced mobility are just some of the services available.

Pekes Yoga is run by Dr Leonor Rodriguez, a clinical and health psychologist who has been working with children and young people to improve their happiness and wellbeing for many years. She has also worked with children suffering from chronic illness and their families. Leonor is also a certified yoga teacher and children’s yoga teacher.
