Find out about dangers of carbon monoxide, warns Kyne

Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment and Galway West TD Seán Kyne has encouraged all Galway householders to find out more about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning during Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week which runs from Monday September 25 to Sunday October 1.

“Awareness of Carbon Monoxide and the lethal danger it poses is vital so that householders can take the necessary steps to keep themselves and their families safe,” said Minister Kyne.

“Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless poisonous gas that can be released by any fuel that burns, including coal, turf, oil, gas or wood. It can build up in the home because of poor ventilation, faulty heating appliances, blocked chimneys, among other ways.

“While Carbon Monoxide can be a serious threat, there are measures that householders can take. These include: having an audible, carbon monoxide alarm; having appliances correctly installed and serviced each year; having chimneys swept regularly; and ensuring that vents are never blocked,” he said.
