COPE Galway launches new restaurant campaign to help deliver Meals on Wheels

From July 28 to August 7, customers in a number of participating restaurants in Galway can take the opportunity to give one euro extra when having a meal that will raise money for COPE Galway's Meals on Wheels service for elderly people.

Meals on Wheels volunteers prepare and deliver 160 meals a day to older people living in their own homes in Galway city and county.

Restaurants taking part in the campaign are, Rouge restaurant, Maxwell's restaurant, Café Temple, Le Petit Délice café, La Collina restaurant, Le Petit Pois restaurant, and Pascal Café.

Marie-Anne Michel, the community fundraiser in COPE Galway. said: "Our community catering Meals on Wheels is a fantastic service in the community, supported by dedicated staff and a team of volunteers.

"There is a six euro charge for the meal, but some of our clients cannot pay for it and we are committed to supporting them and to ensuring that they can stay at home for as long as they wish to do so."

Elderly people look forward to the meals provided by Meals on Wheels each day, they enjoy chatting with the volunteer drivers and having a fresh and wholesome meal delivered to their door, so it is essential that the service continues.

"We're very thankful to the hotels and restaurants that supported the initiative which took place for the first time last September and raised a total of €1,858," said Marie-Anne Michel.

"We would like to invite everyone to go out for a meal in our participating restaurants between July 28 and August 7 and give an extra €1 towards our Meals on Wheels service."
