Channel cleaning and riverbank works in north Galway

Channel cleaning and riverbank maintenance by the Office of Public Works is ongoing throughout County Galway, in areas around Tuam, Lisavalley, Skehana, and Ballydonnellan.

The works will be carried out throughout the summer and are aimed at preventing winter or flash flooding. Maintenance is being carried out on the River Nanny in Tuam to ensure all channels are clear and capable of taking off water in the event of a flood. Work is also ongoing on channel cleaning on the Grange River and at Lisavalley, while riverbank protection is being carried out in Skehana and Ballydonnellan.

The works have been welcomed by Galway East Independent Alliance TD Seán Canney. "I will continue to raise issues of importance with the OPW," he said, "and ensure that necessary maintenance work is carried out in advance of the winter months."
