Meet Fred - the tiny prejudice fighting firebrand

Galway International Arts Festival theatre event

FRED IS an anarchic two-foot-tall cloth puppet; a social activist, angry about the injustices he sees in society; and burning with determination to fight prejudice wherever he finds it.

This tiny, potty-mouthed, firebrand also wants to be a regular guy, to get a job, and meet a girl, but when threatened with losing his Puppetry Living Allowance, Fred’s life begins to spiral out of his control.

This is Meet Fred from Hijinx Theatre (Wales ), which receives its Irish premiere at the Galway International arts Festival, when it runs at the Blue Teapot Theatre, Munster Avenue, from Thursday July 27 to Saturday 29 at 8pm with matinees at 3pm. A hit of last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Guardian called it “sharp, funny and vastly entertaining"; The Herald said, "The humour here is brilliantly black with mordant social and political relevance"; while the Fringe Review said “if you only see one show at the EdFringe this year, make sure you see Meet Fred”.

Hijinx and Blue Teapot are partners in the pan-European Crossing the Line project, consisting of European theatre companies working with artists with intellectual disabilities.

Tickets are on sale at www.giaf.ie or the Town Hall Theatre (091 - 566577, www.tht.ie ). #GIAF17
