Design Island Galway exhibition

Exhibition of furniture and and fine metalwork to open at The Niland Gallery

THE FOURTH Design Island Galway exhibition will present furniture pieces, lighting design, stone sculpture, ceramics, glass, artwork, and fine metalwork, designed and hand built in Ireland.

The show will feature Donnacha Cahill's large scale sculptures in metals and recyclables; Garrett Herbert's home accessories, outdoor objects, gates, and finely crafted metals; furniture designer Tommy Carew's Serenity Birds and Jas Carver chair; glassmaker Michelle Donnell; printmaker Daniel Ulrichs; Daniel Gill’s traditional cabinet making; Ben Gabriel and his son Joshua will present the new Swallow Table and DNA lights; and Shane Holland's cruise lights recycled from aviation parts along with Pollygone table and other furniture.

The exhibition opens in the Niland Gallery, Merchant's Road, at 5pm Sunday July 16 and runs until July 30. All work displayed will be for sale and designers will be available to discuss commission work.

Design Island is a network group of designer makers and producers, formed in 2003 as the Cream of Irish Design and re-named Design Island in 2005. It has presented exhibitions at 100% Design London (2009 ) and Tent London (2011 ) along with numerous Dublin shows.
