MICHAEL SMILEY, the Irish actor who has performed in A Field In England, Doctor Who, Glassland, and who even appears in Star Wars: Rogue One, will give the Actors' Masterclass at this year's Galway Film Fleadh.

The Belfast native, who has collaborated with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost on the cult British sitcom Spaced and Shaun of the Dead; and whose credits also include Wire In The Blood (as Dr Liam Kerwin ), Ripper Street, The Aliens, and the Irish film My Name is Emily. The masterclass takes place on Saturday July 15.

This year’s directors' masterclass will be given by New York based film director Amir Bar-Lev, whose Long Strange Trip, a documentary about legendary rock band the Grateful Dead, will be screened at the fleadh in Monroe’s Live on Friday July 14 at 6pm.

Fourteen years in the making, it chronicles the Bay Area group’s incredible journey from the early days of the San Francisco Acid Tests to the death of legendary guitarist and co-founder Jerry Garcia. Amir Bar-Lev will attend the screening. His masterclass takes place on Friday July 14.

Donnie Darko writer-director Richard Kelly will give this year's screenwriters masterclass in the Radisson Blu Hotel on Thursday July 13. His other credits include Southland Tales (“has more ideas, visual and intellectual, in a single scene than most American independent films have in their entirety", said The New York Times ) and The Box, starring Cameron Diaz.

Spotlight On Actors, a unique casting workshop, will be presented by Hubbard Casting and Spotlight, on Saturday July 15. Successful applicants must bring an updated CV and headshot; have a one-minute long monologue prepared and ready to perform live; provide a self-tape of their monologue by Tuesday July 11, or to have had their audition filmed at Spotlight’s headquarters in Dublin on July 4, 5, 6, or 10. Applicants must be at least 16.
