An atypical heavy trio for FEAST

Italian post-rockers Zu, with guest collaborator Jessica Moss, to play upstairs bar of Róisín Dubh

HAILING FROM Ostia, near the 'Eternal City' of Rome, Zu are an atypical trio of drums, electric bass, baritone saxophone, and electronics. It may be the strangest gig FEAST has yet organised, but all the more reason to go see it.

Zu, along with guest collaborator Jessica Moss, play the next FEAST night, downstairs in the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday June 20 at 8pm. Their instrumental music fuses math rock, heavy metal, and noise rock, and features virtuosic drumming, powerful bass, and distorted saxophone.

The band - Luca Mai (baritone sax ), Massimo Pupillo (bass ), Tomas Järmyr (drums ) - formed in 1997 and began as composers and players for theatre performances. They have since released 14 albums and worked with Mike Patton, Buzz Osbourne, and Mats Gustafsson.

Jessica Moss, who worked with Zu on their latest album, Jhator, is best known for playing violin and singing backing vocals with Canadian post-rockers Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra. She is also a member of the Tra-La-La Band and Black Ox Orkestar. She has worked with Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene.

Support is from Iron Mountain, a multi-instrumental group from Limerick, who perform on guitars, drums, flute, uilleann pipes, synths, saxophone, violin, and percussion. Admission is €12/10.
