Family comcert and family events at the Galway Early Music Festival

YOUNG MUSICIANS and singers from the Athenry Music School Horizon Orchestra, the St Nicholas Choristers, Maoincheoil na Gaillimhe’s Adult String Orchestra, and Galway Early Music’s Red Earl’s Musicke join forces for the Galway Early Music Festival.

The groups, joined by The Gregory Walkers, will perform at Haste To The Wedding, the closing concert of this year's GEMF, on Sunday May 21 at 5pm in St Nicholas Collegiate Church. Haste To The Wedding will feature love songs, wedding vows, dance tunes, and songs of merriment from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.

The concert is one of a number of family friendly events during the festival, which runs from tomorrow up to Sunday. On Saturday May 20, the Latin Quarter will resound with music from strolling medieval musicians; the Ruby Room in The King's Head will host magical and musical stories for all (12 noon ); along with coffee concerts in St Nicholas (11am to 1pm ). On Sunday, there is medieval dancing in The Hall at Busker Brownes (12 noon ) or a chance to play an early Irish harp (2pm ).
