Fruition - Fregoli revive Cúirt show for two nights at Druid

Galway company stage five new plays from four new writers

FREGOLI Theatre Company is reviving it's ambitiou Fruition: A New Plays Project, it's Cúirt literary festival debut show from last month, which will see the Galway company stage five dramas from four new writers.

The company will stage the five plays in one sitting in Druid's Mick Lally Theatre on Thursday May 18 and again on Friday 19. Doors for both shows are 8pm.

Last October Fregoli made an open call for short, original, plays, selecting the five resulting pieces for what the company called, "brilliantly conceived characters, imaginative use of language, and the potential to create a world an audience can become immediately immersed in".

The plays to be staged are Find Me In Spring by Rory O Sullivan. Billy Duffy, a 10-year-old aspiring hunter with an overactive imagination, sees his father throw the body of a rotten deer off a cliff - or so he was told. What repercussions can a child's misunderstanding bring? The cast is Brian May, Oisin Robbins and Evan Browne. The director is Maria Tivnan.

There will be two plays by Orla McGovern. In Wristbands, smuggling and black market activity is the stock in trade of Jimmy and Jono, but for Jono, today is different and there is no way to keep a lid on it. The cast is Jerry Fitzgerald and Oisin Robbins. The director is Rob McFeely. Tick Tock explores the strained relationship between a mother and daughter. Directed by Kate Murray, the cast is Jackie Roantree and Yvonne Leydon.

Jonathon Ryan's Afterimage, directed by Tracy Bruen, is a short exploration of small victories, big losses, and the surreality in between. The cast is Aoife Noone, Grainne White, and Brian May. In The Streets Are Ours by Robert Higgins, two ageing boy racers meet in a car park on the evening an old friend returns from abroad. The cast is Oisin Robbins, Jonathan Ryan, and Jerry Fitzgerald. The director is Maria Tivnan.

Total running time is 70 minutes. The plays are suitable for ages 14 and up. Tickets are €12/15 via [email protected] and 091 - 568660.
