Róisín Dubh Comedy Showcase: Every Tuesday at Róisín Dubh

Róisín Dubh has long been the home of comedy in Galway. Every week, the promoters of Friday night’s “Comedy Clubh” bring us the very best of Irish and international stand up, improv and sketch acts. From Foil Arms & Hog at the Town Hall Theatre and British-Iranian comic Omid Djalili in Black Box later this month to the Vodafone Comedy Carnival in October (now a major highlight of the Irish festival calendar ) they really do spoil us with top acts week in, week out.

But not this week!

The Clubh is taking a little break with Friday being Paddy’s day, but fear not, your weekly dose of comedy at Roisin Dubh is still available with their cracking showcase night which happens every Tuesday in the smaller upstairs room. Featuring the very best emerging stand up talent from around the country you never know who might drop in. Only last Tuesday (14th ) Fred Cooke popped in to try out his new material ahead of his upcoming DVD recording in Whelans in Dublin. The Showcase features regular hosts in rotation: Galway’s grumpiest Mayo import Bob Hennigan, winner of last month’s Tedfest Toilet Duck competition Johnny Graham & Galway’s offbeat Gaeilgeoir, no-nonsense-but-plenty-of-craic legend Aine Gallagher which keeps things fresh and funny.

Nights like this are crucial for nurturing the grass roots of the scene, new talent has to find an outlet and who knows when you’re going to see the next Kevin Bridges, Jack Whitehall or Sarah Millican all of whom played at the venue on their way to the top. And there’s more good news. It costs a mere fiver to get in, you get a free pint of Tuborg and you get in free to the world famous Silent Disco after the show. There really is no better way to pass a Tuesday evening in Galway.
