The soundtrack to France at war

Duo Chagall to perform lunchtime Music For Galway concert

TWO PIECES of music, both written in France during WWI, will be performed by Duo Chagall at a lunchtime Music For Galway concert entitled Notes from the Great War: French Chamber Music from 1917.

Duo Chagall - Gillian Williams (violin ) and Arun Rao (cello ) - will play Charles Koechlin's Sonata for Cello & Piano Op 66 and Louis Vierne's Quintet for Piano & Strings Op 42 in the Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, on Thursday November 10 at 1.05pm. The duo will be joined by Lance Coburn (piano ), Siobhán Doyle (violin ), and David O’Doherty (viola ).

Koechlin’s beautiful cello sonata is tranquil and transcending, while Vierne's piano quintet, is, as the composer himself noted, "something big and mighty that will stir from the guts and the hearts of fathers' deepest love for their dead sons".

Tickets are €7 (concert only ) or €14 (concert, soup, and sandwich ) through [email protected] or 091 - 705962.
