Mystics overcome Brunell with ease

NUIG Mystics bagged their second win of their first season in the Superleague on Saturday over Brunell by 74-60 in the Kingfisher.

Mystics started with a first five of Ebony Wells, Hannah Coen, Lauren Murray, Catherine Connaire and Brittany Glasco.

In an intense and high tempo affair, Mystics enjoyed a great start, hitting four three-pointers from Catherine Connaire and Lauren Murray in the first quarter. With Eboney Wells operating strong on the offensive boards and 100 per cent from the free throw line, Mystics led 20-12 at the end of the first.

It was much of the same in the second quarter with Brittany Glasco running the point well and causing real problems for the Brunell defence, and helped by Maggie Byrne, the home side Mystic led 41- 26.

Alison Blaney and Mary Cunniffe joined the action for Mystics in the third and with Ebony Wells dominant on the boards with Hannah Coen and Maggie Byrne, Mystics were 58-41 ahead.

Sarah Grealish entered the game in the fourth, as did Rebecca Hansberry and Shannon Cullen, and despite being under massive pressure from the Brunell defence, they ran out comfortable winners.
