Men who give a damn support local charities

The Galway chapter of 100 Men Who Give A Damn, the first chapter of the organisation in Europe, will hold its quarterly meeting in the Portershed this evening and is inviting new members to get involved.

The premise for the group is simple — men who give a damn get together four times a year. The group listens to short pitches from three local charities on the night, detailing specific projects for which they need funding. It's like Dragon's Den, but for charities, and one charity is guaranteed to walk away with funding.

Members then vote in a secret ballot on which charity they want to support, and each member contributes €100 to the winning charity, which receives up to €10,000 in total contributions from the group.

This is the third meeting the group has held in Galway, with the local chapter having raised €7,600 for local charities to date.

New members are welcomed to go along to this evening's meeting, which takes place in the Portershed, just off Eyre Square, from 6pm. Attendees will be required to register on the door and to contribute €100 to the winning charity.

Guest speaker at this evening's meeting will be Mark O'Donnell of Galway2020. For more information on 100 Men Who Give A Damn see www.100men.ie.
