Public meeting on ‘The Rise of People Power’

The public anger over water charges, leading to the largest street demonstrations seen in the State in decades, and the Government climb-down on the controversial measure, has raised the issue of the future of ‘people power’.

The Rise of People Power is the title of a public meeting which will take place in the Western Hotel, Prospect Hill, on Wednesday May 18 at 8pm, which will be addressed by the recently elected People Before Profit Alliance TD Gino Kenny. Now that water charges have been postponed, the activist Left is asking where can the ‘people power’ movement go and how can it be prevented from dissipating.

Gino Kenny was a leading figure in organising opposition to water charges in his own area of Dublin. First elected as a councillor to South Dublin County Council in 2009, he retained his seat in 2014. He won a Dáil seat on the basis of his opposition to water charges and the austerity agenda of the Fine Gael-Labour Government.

All are welcome to attend and contribute to the discussion.
