The Galleon launches menu to support Bádórí an Cladaig

The Galleon Restaurant Salthill, is supporting Bádórí an Cladaig, the Claddagh Community Boat Club.

The Claddagh Boatmen is dedicated to the restoration and sailing of the traditional Galway work boats, known as Galway hookers. These distinctive boats are an important part of our heritage and the group aims to preserve them and bring them back to their full glory as in the days when they plied the routes between the coasts of County Galway and the Aran Islands, transporting turf, seaweed, livestock, and other cargo to and from all the coastal villages and towns.

“We hope to have a flotilla of traditional handcrafted Galway hookers, that will make us Galwegians extremely proud,” said Peter Connolly, secretary of Bádórí an Cladaig. Roger O'Sullivan of The Galleon Restaurant added: “Their determination to revive skills that had almost vanished is admirable and instills pride in a community, a community I certainly want to stand behind. I feel this will play a major role in our bid to become Europe’s Capital of Culture 2020.”

The Galleon Restaurant will host a €25 menu, consisting of three courses, which is available all day Monday to Saturday. For every menu purchased, The Galleon will donate €5 to the local boatmen, Bádórí an Cladaig.
