Orchid Collective kick off new month of Citóg gigs

Leading Galway talents Brian Kelly, Niall Murphy, and Cranky Face also due to play

RISING IRISH band Orchid Collective will kick off the Citóg gigs for March at the Róisín Dubh, which will also see performances from such exciting new Galway band Field Trip, whose new single has just been released.

The first gig is on Wednesday [March 2] with Dublin quartet Orchid Collective headlining. Their combination of vocal harmonies and ambient soundscapes has seen them carve out a unique position within the alternative-folk genre. They have been included in Whelan's 'Ones to watch' list for 2015 and 2016, released their debut single 'Figure it Out' last year, while their second single, 'Lay', is out next month. As Dublin Concerts? said: "This is a band with a stage presence well beyond the current status of ‘single launch’ stage...it’s that kind of sound audiences are loving right now and who are also happily paying extortionate prices to see bands of a similar genre in a live setting."

Brian Kelly, as the leader, vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter of So Cow, has proven himself as one of County Galway's most maverick, brilliant, and original talents. A gift for melody, catchy hooks, and witty lyrics is married to a unrepentant punk and indie sensibility, which is why So Cow have been favourably reviewed in Pitchfork and have played the prestigious Primavera festival in Barcelona.

The above mentioned qualities are also on display when Brian plays solo, but with the mischievous and humorous aspect of his songwriting allowed more to the fore. Brian will be in solo mode when he headlines Citóg on Wednesday March 9, where he will be supported by fellow Tuam native, Niall Murphy, leader/singer/guitarist with Oh Boland, and another outstanding songwriter. Also on the bill yet another Galwegian, Donal McConnon.

The final Citóg gig of the month is on Wednesday March 23, with Galway garage pop band Field Trip, formerly known as We are Ruffians. The band are Paul Casserly (drums ), Finn McCarthy (bass ), Sean Walsh (guitar/vocals ), and Wayne Foy (guitar/vocals ). Check out their debut single 'You and I':

Also playing are Cork folk-rockers White-Line Fever, whose debut EP, Anomie, earned a 10/10 review from U&I magazine; and the excellent Galway 'supergroup' Cranky Face, who boast the talents of drummer Mosey Byrne (Rural Savage, It Was All A Bit Black and White ), bassist Hob Junker (Rural Savage ), and vocalist/guitarist Simon Noble (Spats Colombo ). Check out their very fine debut EP We Should Hate:

Doors for all gigs are at 9pm and admission is free.
