Uncover the real Renoir

RENOIR IS one of the best loved artists of all time, for his wonderful depictions of beautiful women and 19th century French life, but he is also one of arts most influential figures.

Picasso collected more Renoirs than any other artist. Matisse revered him. Both these giants of modern and 20th century art cited him as among their main influences. Now the man, his work, and career are to be explored in a new documentary, Renoir: The Unknown Artist, which will be shown in The Eye Cinema, Wellpark, on Tuesday February 16 at 6.30pm.

The film begins with The Barnes Collection in Philadelphia, which has more Renoirs than any other gallery in the world, and proceeds to uncover a rarely told story which places the artist as a critical link between the old and the new.
