Galway 'supergroup' Cranky Face to launch debut EP

Listen to debut EP's opening track 'Toya'

IF THERE is such a thing as a Galway 'Supergroup', Cranky Face just might be it, being made up of guitarist Fuz Reilly (Boyfights ), vocalist/guitarist Simon Noble (Spats Colombo, Mugger Dave ), drummer Mosey Byrne (Rural Savage ), and bassist/Citóg co-organiser Hob Junker.

The four talents joined forces recently and have recorded a debut EP which they will launch with a gig in the Róisín Dubh on Thursday November 26 at 9pm. A taste of the band's music can be found via two tracks which are now streaming on https://soundcloud.com/cranky-face: 'Toya' and 'We Should Hate'.

'Toya' sees Englishman Simon Noble turn in a fine vocal performance, equal parts resignation and angst, that draws on the traditions of British sixties psychedelic pop, and nineties indie ' "the sun in the sky makes me feel like it will not snow again" refrain towards the end being perticularly effective - which marries seamlessly with music that draws heavily, and very effectively, on the quiet/loud dynamics of the Pixies and Nirvana.

All in all, an interesting start for the band. Admission to the Róisín Dubh gig is free.
