Pulse College offering a free course in gaming and interactive technologies

Pulse College has been based in Galway since 2013 and is currently offering a range of full, part-time, and six week introductory courses in games design and development from its modern and spacious city centre campus in Geata na Cathrach on the Fairgreen Road.

The college is running a free course this October for those who are unemployed but seeking to upskill in the area of gaming and interactive technology. Video Gaming is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The 33 week full-time course is part of the Momentum scheme which funds the provision of free education and training to allow jobseekers (who are unemployed for 12 months or more ) to gain skills and to access work opportunities in identified growing sectors.

This course is structured for those who are interested in developing their own business opportunities and the college is keen to stress it is about much more than video games. There are three main areas that will be covered. The digital art section will educate students in areas such as Photoshop, logo design, 3D, and animation. The project management stream will incorporate subjects such as risk management, intellectual property, and finance. The interactive software development section will examine how students can turn an idea into reality by covering topics such as business generation and pitch development. Other areas that will be covered are applications, educational support software, and interactive tools that can be used in most businesses.

Lecturers are industry based business professionals, project management leaders, and interactive media entrepreneurs. There will also be guest lecturers and many events will be hosted in the college throughout the course, meaning it will provide an excellent opportunity to network with industry experts.

Anybody who is on the live register for 12 months or more and interested in taking a place on this course should contact their local social welfare office for further information. An open day for prospective students will take place on October 2. This interactive open event will provide the perfect opportunity for you to speak to tutors and staff about course content and potential career paths in the creative media industry.
