Monivea Fair takes place this weekend

This year will mark the 16th year of the annual Monivea Fair which provides a relaxing and fun filled weekend of shows, vintage displays, amusements, and events for all the family.

On Friday August 28, Mass will be celebrated in the Mausoleum in Monivea Woods at 7pm. A funfair will also open in the village. The Monivea/Abbey underage football tournament will take place in Monivea GAA grounds on Saturday at 10am, while on Sunday the Fair Day is in full swing from 11am. Vintage displays and a large variety of artisan craft and food stalls will run all day on the village green. Parking and admission is free of charge.

The Monivea Fair has something for everyone from the Old Time Sheep Fair and the Poultry Show, which start at 1pm, to the dog annd pet shows at 2pm. There is tractor building, threshing demonstrations and of course the annual tug of war. Go along and watch as a master wood turner demonstrates his skills. A bonny baby and the newly added children’s fancy dress competition take place in Fr Sammon Hall, along with Taekwon-do demonstrations throughout the day.

There will also be duck racing, guess the weight of the animal, and a take me home lamb competition. Super-draw ‘one winner takes all’ tickets will be on sale with the draw taking place at the end of the day. Monivea Fair programmes will be on sale for €2, a complete guide to the day’s activities as well as a handy local business directory.

All proceeds from the Monivea Fair go directly to the Fr Sammon Centre Development Fund. The fair committee would like to thank the Monivea community, local businesses, advertisers, and show participants for their continued support. And the visitors who come in their droves every year are thanked for making the event such a success.
