Colm Mac Con Iomaire - solo show from Frames man

Galway International Arts Festival concert @ Róisín Dubh

A MAINSTAY of The Frames, founder member of Kíla, a solo artist of note, comfortable with indie-rock, folk, and trad, and an outstanding fiddle player, Colm Mac Con Iomaire is a major presence in Irish music.

Colm is coming to Galway next week to play the Róisín Dubh, where he will perform music from his new album, And Now The Weather (Agus Anois An Aimsir ), which was released in April. It features violin, viola, guitar, bouzouki, zither, piano, brass, percussion, strings, harp, and vocals. The album, his second, is the follow-up to 2008's The Hare’s Corner.

Colm is from Dublin, but his father’s people came from the Conamara Gaeltacht. He grew up surrounded by Gaeilge, sean nós song, while on his mother’s side there was classical violin and piano and Colm learned to play as a child. This dual heritage would server him well when co-founding the Irish/world music band Kíla, and their early days of busking put Colm in touch with Glen Hansard, with whom he would form The Frames. As well as recording with these bands, and solo, Colm has also scored music for television.

Colm Mac Con Iomaire plays the Róisín Dubh on Monday July 20 at 9pm as part of the Galway International Arts Festival. Tickets are available through www.giaf.ie and www.roisindubh.net
