Tribesmen seal home final in style

The Tribesmen, Galway's Rugby League club, finished top of the Munster/Connacht League after disposing for a second time of All Ireland champions Treaty City Titans on Sunday.

The victory ensures the Tribesmen will have home advantage in the regional final where they will again meet the Limerick men.

It is the first Munster final to be held outside of Limerick, and the Galway men will be hoping home advantage counts when the two sides meet again on July 18 at Southpark.

The 34-22 victory ensured the Tribesmen continued their winning streak in an exciting top-of-the-table clash with the men from Limerick.

The game commenced in fairly combative style with the Tribesmen determined to hold onto top spot and the Titans wanting to prove a point and also hoping to obtain the 2 points which would avoid them having to travel back to Galway for the final.

First blood was drawn when the Tribesmen big prop forward Andrew Antonio crashed over between the posts in the fourth minute mark which was converted by Conor Mackay. The Tribesmen doubled their lead after 10 minutes when Anthony Leifi scored and with Conor Mackay converting again that gave the Tribesmen a 12-point lead.

The Titans retaliated in the 13th minute with a try from Lemeki Vaipulu, and with the conversion successful, they closed the gap to 12-6.

It took another 25 minutes of heavy hits before the Tribesmen added to their score -  Andrew Antonio crossing for his second which Conor Mackay converted for a 18-6 half-time lead.

The home side continued its dominance with Aaron Byrne scoring the fourth try in the 46th minute by Aaron Byrne, while former Connacht Rugby player Mata Fifita  registered his first try for the club.  Mackay added the conversion for a  28-6.

The Titans, however, staged a mini revival to peg the lead back to 28-22, but the Tribesmen took control with Sosefo Teisina, the fourth member of the Tribesmen's South Pacific contingent, crossing to finish the scoring.
