New non-stop bus service to Shannon

New bus services are set to improve links between Galway and Shannon.

Bus Éireann has announced the launch of five daily direct services from Galway city to Shannon Airport until October 24.

The services are non-stop and will take 70 minutes from Galway, departing Galway Bus Station in Eyre Square and including a stop at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology on the Dublin Road.  It will operate at 5am, 8am 11am, 2pm, and 7pm. An introductory €10 one-way fare is in place as part of the launch.

Bus Éireann regional manager Brian Connolly says the service is geared towards improving access to and from Galway for inbound and outbound passengers for the summer.

“This service will benefit customers in Galway travelling to Shannon Airport,  and Shannon passengers will have better connections to Galway," he says.

" Shannon is the only airport on the western seaboard that connects the region with the major tourist markets of the UK, US and Europe, and Bus Éireann is boosting scheduled services onwards from there for these visitors. The new timetable will also help customers to access  the Wild Atlantic Way on a more regular basis.”

Shannon Group's chief commercial officer Andrew Murphy Shannon Group said the new services are timely.

“ With the success of the Wild Atlantic Way, it will also be very timely in terms of getting tourists into Galway city, one of the touring route’s key gateways, and supporting Galway’s excellent tourism offering.

“Having services to key international destinations is, of course, the main reason why people use Shannon and with our network having grown substantially over recent years, we are delivering in that area.  Another key reason why people use Shannon is because of its accessibility, which is all about getting to and from the airport and its ease of use.  This new Bus Éireann service will heighten that considerably for people getting to and from Galway.”
