Galwegians asked vote for their local nursing homes

Nursing Homes Ireland  is issuing a rallying call for people to recognise and celebrate nursing home residents and those providing care in nursing homes in our local communities.

NHI, in association with Homecare Medical Supplies, is calling upon visitors to nursing homes, those working and living within them, and the wider public, to nominate for the NHI Care Awards 2015.

Now in their sixth year, the NHI Care Awards recognise and honour outstanding care and excellence. There are 37 private and voluntary nursing homes in County Galway providing care to 1,594 residents and employing an equivalent number.

The award categories reflect the diversity and many facets of nursing home life, honouring not only outstanding staff, but also residents' contribution to nursing home life, integration with the community, dementia care, and end-of-life care.

RTE presenter Gráinne Seoige will MC the awards which will take place in Dublin on Thursday November 12.

Tadhg Daly, NHI CEO, stated: “There is fantastic care being provided by people in nursing homes, and this is an opportunity for the wider public to nominate those they feel deserving of national recognition. The excellent care provided in these ‘home-from-home’ settings brings great comfort and happiness to our older population.

A six person independent judging panel will assess the 2015 entries and interview those shortlisted.

The NHI Care Awards 2015 will take place on Thursday November 12. www.nhicareawards.ie
