Galway Film Fleadh 'music from the movies' concert

FILM SCORES, be they the James Bond theme, John William's iconic score for Star Wars, Ennio Morricone's immortal The Good, The Bad or The Ugly theme, have given the world some of its best and best loved music.

Galway can look forward to enjoying some of that great music when the Galway Film Fleadh, in collaboration with the Esker Festival Orchestra, and Galway City of Film, presents a free public concert of film scores on Wednesday July 8 at 1pm at the Spanish Arch. The programme will include music by composers such as John Williams, Howard Shore, and Hans Zimmer, and music from films like Star Wars, Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Lord of the Rings.

The Esker Festival Orchestra is a 60 person ensemble of young musicians from all across Ireland. It was founded last year to provide an opportunity for young professionals to perform together and to promote orchestral music in Ireland.

In December, Galway was officially designated a UNESCO City Of Film, a permanent global designation, which includes membership of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network. It seeks to develop international cooperation among cities identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable development.

The Galway Film Fleadh runs from Tuesday July 7 to Sunday 12. For more information see www.galwayfilmfleadh.com or www.eskerfestivalorchestra.com
