Bill Bailey adds Galway to Limboland Irish tour

BILL BAILEY, one of the greatest of modern British comedians, has announced he is coming to Galway on Wednesday September 30, when he performs his new show Limboland, in The Black Box Theatre.

The gap between how we imagine our lives to be and how they really are is the subject of Limboland. With his trademark intelligence and sharp wit, Bill will regail audiences with tales of finding himself in this halfway place. From his countless global travels, he recounts the hilarious saga of a disastrous family trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights; he rails against a world that doesn’t match up to our expectations and contemplates the true nature of happiness; and no Bill Bailey show would be complete without music, so we have Bill’s version of the protest song, a heart-rending country and western ballad played on a Bible, and a fabulously downbeat version of 'Happy Birthday'.

Bill recently returned from Hong Kong and Singapore where he performed Limboland to sell out crowds. This was preceded by a hit tour of Australia and New Zealand which saw packed houses and the critics raving, with The Herald Sun in Melbourne describing the show as, “a solid new effort from a genuine marvel... Pretty much unmissable" while The New Zealand Herald described it as simply, “bloody excellent... The material is solid gold".

Since his debut show, Cosmic Jam in 1995, Bill has become a permanent and much loved fixture on the comedy scene and on TV, having appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Black Books, Jonathan Creek, and the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special. He has also presented numerous documentaries on wildlife series and is a supporter of International Animal Rescue.

Bill was recently presented with an honorary doctorate of the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia for his outstanding contribution to the environment on a global scale. Vice-chancellor and president of the University, Prof Greg Hill said, “We believe Bill’s commitment to wildlife conservation and sustainability, particularly in Southeast Asia and Indonesia, demonstrates excellence and deserves recognition.”

Bill is currently developing ideas for film and television with his own production company, Glassbox Productions, which is responsible for bringing to the screen Tinselworm, the multi award-winning Bill Bailey’s Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra, Dandelion Mind, and his most recent live DVD release, Qualmpeddler.

Tickets cost €30, including booking, through Ticketmaster and go sale on Friday May 15 at 9am.
