Open day at Athenry College of Further Education

Athenry Vocational School has been to the forefront in the provision of further education courses since the inception of the concept of lifelong learning and has had tremendous success with students obtaining a qualification which has led to employment opportunities and access to third level courses using the alternative CAO route.

To keep in line with the changing economic climate new courses are continually being developed which are accredited by FETAC.

New courses on offer this year are retail practice with computerised office skills, intellectual disability practice, animal care/veterinary assistant, applied social studies, and tourism with business.

The following existing courses will continue next year: Childcare/special needs assisting/school age childcare; healthcare support; nursing studies; computerised office skills/medical secretary; advanced certificate in business administration - FETAC Level 6; and supervision in childcare with special needs – FETAC Level 6.

Leaving Certificate and mature students are welcome and all of the courses allow access to further education at university and institutes of technology through the FETAC route. In order to facilitate people, most of the courses take place in the mornings.

Tuition is free and the courses run from September to May. Applicants may qualify for a maintenance grants and social welfare benefits may also be retained. All courses are certified by FETAC Level 5 or FETAC Level 6.
