Handel’s Messiah comes to St Nicholas’

HANDEL’S MASTERPIECE and one of the great works of classical and Christian music, Messiah, will be performed in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, on Sunday December 7 at 6.30pm.

Messiah will be performed by the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Resurgam choir, led by acclaimed guest conductor Eamonn Dougan, who is also the principal guest conductor of The National Youth Choir of Great Britain and chorus director of Britten Sinfonia Voices.

They will be joined by Irish soloists Sinead O’Kelly (soprano ), Anne-Marie Gibbons (mezzo ), Eamonn Mulhall (tenor ), and Owen Gilhooly (baritone ).

The Irish Baroque Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Monica Huggett, performs music from the 17th and 18th centuries on period instruments or modern replicas. Resurgam is widely acknowledged to be one of the country’s most accomplished vocal ensembles. Formed in 2003, it features 32 voices and sings sacred, Renaissance, and Baroque works.
