House of Cards writer/producer to attend Galway TV seminar

Beau Willimon, writer and executive producer of House of Cards, BAFTA winning producer Claire Jennings, and the Oscar nominated Finola Dwyer are coming to Galway for the Galway Film Centre’s Annual Film & TV Seminar, in the Connemara Coast Hotel on Thursday November 27 and Friday 28.

Highlights of the seminar will certainly be an in-depth interview with the youngest show runner in the United States, Beau Willimon, who will share his experiences as creator, writer, and executive producer on Netflix’s hugely successful drama series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey Ther term 'showrunner’ originated in the US TV industry to refer to the person responsible for the day-to-day operation of a television series. A more formal title is executive producer.

Also on the panel will be Claire Jennings, the BAFTA winning producer of Coraline and The Curse of the Were Rabbit; and Finola Dwyer, the Oscar nominated producer of An Education.

Also attending will be Moe Honan of Moetion Films; Heather Mills of Beochan Animation Studio; Magamedia’s Paddy Hayes, whose TV drama Corp agus Anam, is coming to TG4; Lee Magiday of Element Pictures which made the hugely successful movie, The Guard; Alexander Arlango, famous for The Duchess and Last Days on Mars; David Collins of Samson Films; and Gub Neal, former head of drama at Channel 4 and producer of The Fall. Alongside James Flynn of Octagon Films, he also the hugely successful Irish series Love/Hate.

Oliver Luer (Valkyrie, The Pianist ) will conduct a case study on his work as line producer on Roman Polanski’s The Ghost. Producer Paddy Slattery and director James Fitzgerald will deliver a workshop giving a behind the scenes look at producing their award winning film Skunky Dog. There will also be panel discussions on show running, creative production, line producing, animation, the business side of the TV show.
