Walsh and Cunningham ratified as senior managers

Kevin Walsh was ratified as Galway senior football manager on a three year term and Galway senior hurling manager Anthony Cunningham will continue on for another two years following last Monday night’s county board meeting.

Both positions will be reviewed annually.

Cunningham took over the hurling job in 2012 and in his first season led the Tribesmen to the All-Ireland final, where they were defeated by Kilkenny in a replay.

This year Galway went out of the championship with a disappointing loss to Tipperary in the qualifiers, and despite being challenged for the role by three other candidates, Cunningham returns with a backroom staff of Eugene Cloonan, Damien Curley and Pat Malone.

Walsh, who won two senior All-Irelands with Galway in 1998 and 2001, was Sligo senior manager for five years and was team manager with Michéal Breathnachs this season.

He is joined on his backroom team by former Corofin manager Brian Silke and current Barna selector Seán Conlon.
