New book on the work of Joe Boske

THE ART of Joe Boske is synonymous with the great Galway Arts Festival posters of the 1980s as well as with a surreal, off-beat way of looking at the west of Ireland.

A native of Germany, Joe has lived in Ireland since 1969. His finest works, which have come in the form of paintings, posters, record covers, book illustrations, cartoons, poetry, and music, are now gathered together in a new book, Joe Boske: The Works, published by Artisan House, in Letterfrack, Connemara.

The book, and an accompanying exhibition, will be launched by film-maker Art Ó Briain in The Station House this Saturday at 5.30pm, as part of the Clifden Community Arts Festival.

“The variety and range of work included in this publication will be a surprise even to those who believe they already know Joe’s work and many talents,” said Mary Ruddy, editorial director of Artisan House. “We are also very pleased to be publishing the work of a fellow Connemara resident.”

The softback edition is €20. There is a limited edition hardback for €100. It is signed by Joe Boske and contains a DVD of a film on the artist, Strike While the Irony is Hot by Barry Ryan and a CD of Joe’s solo album Amara.

Joe Boske: The Works is available from www.artisanhouse.ie, galleries, and selected bookshops.
